Foreign Objects (by liz)

So it is a well known fact amongst my friends that children are not my strong suit. I only baby sat once in my life and it was an absolute disaster. I was the youngest in my family so I never had to change diapers, fill a bottle, or do any of those other things that go along with having a baby in the house. But one thing that I'm becoming a pro at is baby showers. I always love a good party and this weekend I had a opportunity to attend a fabulous little baby shower brunch for my good friend Tammy in the Annex at Sqwires Restaurant in Lafayette Square. How fancy is that? Props to the girls who put it together...it was a real class act. But I have to tell all you first time moms out there, I don't know how you do it. How do you know what all that stuff is?! Half of the things I see opened at baby showers are as foreign to me as UFO's. Actually, I take that back - I know WAY more about UFO's. I was telling one of my cohorts at the table that I thought the doctor or someone should send new moms-to-be home with the equivalent of a "school supplies" list for having a baby.

So on another note, I was really proud of one of the gifts I gave, and I must share it with you. I bought some Potterybarn Christmas stockings and had Mom, Dad and the baby's name embroidered on them. What do you think?! I love Christmas...I would leave my tree up year round if my husband would let me, but I was pretty sure most everyone else in attendance would think I was a looney bin. But they were a hit!

I'm so excited for Tammy - she is going to be an awesome mom and still looks great with only around 6 weeks to go. Here are just a few photos from the event! PS Kristie - I took a good baby shot! I thought you would be proud. :)

A new space...Oliva (by liz)

This is completely unrelated to photography, but if by chance anyone out there is looking for a beautiful, unique place to have a rehearsal dinner, luncheon, smaller reception or other gathering for 100-150 people, I have found the next great thing: Oliva (pronounced OH-LEE-VA). I had the opportunity for a private tour from the owner of the space, Mark Erker, who is also the owner of Catering St. Louis. Mark bought the building that was most recently the restaurant Space on The Hill and is transforming it into a modern Napa wine country meets old Italy Mediterranean sensation. The outdoor area boasts a beautiful pergola, with a water feature and a wine bar. He tells me he's going to grow Wisteria vines on the pergola...I swear it doesn't survive the winters up here, but he has talked to the experts at the Botanical Gardens and they say it will work beautifully. I plan to go see for myself mid-summer, but until then it's probably better that he trusts the experts at MOBOT. :) As we walked through the interior, Mark pointed out all of the beautiful architectural details that had been covered behind drywall by previous owners including interesting archways and 100 year old stained glass windows. These have been brought back to life for all to enjoy. Thick, rustic wooden tables with a naturally aged look will fill the dinner area and encourage comfortable conversation among guests. This space is available exclusively through Catering St. Louis and is only available for private events. It is expected to open mid March of 2008. So if you have an event coming up and are looking for a location, certainly take a look at this one!

James & Henry (by kristie)

How cute are these little twins! James and Henry were perfect little models for me today, as we were all happy to be shooting inside as it was rainy, windy and cold outside. And take a look at this surf board bedroom they have. Hang ten. I love it.

Michelle & Jason (by liz)

Yes, I know I have been rather absent for awhile, but things are getting ready to pick back up around here! Kristie and I have some big news coming soon so come back to take a look soon! In the meantime, it was my pleasure to crawl out of my warm bed earlier than usual on Saturday morning to meet up for some engagement photos with Michelle and Jason - both of which are GREAT at perma grins and were wonderful sports! We headed over to the Wash U campus to take advantage of some beautiful architechture and had a great time! I told them this was the first time I had ever asked anyone to roll around in grass that had frost on it, but I'm thinking that it worked so well I may have to do it again. :)
